Lifestyle changes part 1

Many of you have been with me for a number of years and you know that I have always advocated four major areas which must be dealt with to attain Optimal Health. These four areas are the CORE of Optimal Health. They are:
1. Lifestyle Changes
2. Diet
3. Exercise
4. Supplements designed for you as an individual.
(At the end of the next number of blogs, you will have a map of how to navigate the Pathway to Optimal Health. You might be able to do it on your own, but the chances are that you will need some professional guidance–that’s where I come in!!)

I have placed “Lifestyle Changes” in the number one spot, and “Diet” is number two. This is because I firmly believe that changing your lifestyle (including diet) is the most important area for Optimal Health. All the areas are important, it’s just that Lifestyle Changes are number one and exercise and supplements are at the end. If I had to give each one a percentage value, I would give Lifestyle Changes 40%, Diet 30%, and Exercise and Supplements 15% each.

I have a list of Lifestyle Changes which is long enough that I am going to spend this and the next two blogs going over them. Let’s get started.
 Find God as you understand God, and talk to Him. I use the example of the most successful Program of any kind I’ve ever encountered–Alcoholics Anonymous. You cannot succeed in AA unless you first acknowledge that you have a problem, and then acknowledge that you cannot control that problem without help from a “power greater than yourself.” The same thing applies, in my opinion, to all health problems.
 Buy a Water-Pik and use it every day. This is the very best way to combat gum disease and in turn heart disease. Using dental floss is virtually worthless since floss is simply a string and, while good for removing chunks of food, it cannot remove the plaque that causes gum infections. With the scientifically proven relationship between gum infection and heart disease, the use of a Water-Pik is one of the best ways of preventing heart disease!
 Educate yourself about what substances in your life are toxic, and eliminate them. You educate yourself by reading material like my blog, and by going to and reading what they have regarding toxins. We recently went to a presentation by a health coach who said that over 50% of health problems are caused by toxicity. I think that is probably right!
 Do not drink anything in aluminum cans. The aluminum leaches into the liquids, especially if the can is holding soda. Aluminum is terribly toxic—almost as toxic as mercury.
 Eat 7 servings of vegetables and 3 servings of fresh low glycemic fruits (berries are terrific) every day. This is important for getting antioxidants into your body for their anti-aging effects, and also for getting fiber into your bowels to get rid of toxins. One way of helping you to do this is to take a good fiber supplement with a green drink.
 Spend 7 hours in bed sleeping or resting every night (if you can’t sleep, practice breathing exercises, progressive muscle relaxation, and/or meditation (prayer is a wonderful form of meditation—see the first change above!).
 Walk 9,000 to 10,000 steps per day. Believe me, you have no idea how many steps you actually walk every day! Buy a good pedometer, and measure your steps.
 Stop drinking milk. The only animal that drinks milk after weaning is the human. The only animal that drinks another animal’s milk is the human. Milk is not necessary for good health!
 Do not eat “fast foods!” I don’t think this needs elaboration!

That’s it for the first “Lifestyle Changes” Blog. How do you start? You just pick 3 or 4 of the steps and get started. The goal must be doing all of the changes, but it is a goal that is worth doing because the end result is that you will gain energy, lose weight, and age in the way we were meant to age. That’s how our Creator made us.

Please pass this along to your friends, family, and co-workers. I work with people by utilizing the modern technique known as “telemedicine,” and I would love to help you. You do not have to come to Delaware! Just give me a call at 410-326-6690.
